Kingston Frontenac Public Library is a 16 branch public library system serving the City of Kingston and Frontenac County.  Our primary purpose is to make a positive difference in the lives of everyone in Kingston Frontenac. We aim to achieve this purpose by helping residents transform today’s vast information resources into the solutions, facts, know-how, inspiration, and entertainment they need to learn, solve problems, read, engage with their community and reach their personal aspirations.

Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston

The Marine Museum of the Great Lakes is on a mission to connect the public with the maritime heritage of Kingston and the Great Lakes through programs, exhibits and collections. Our history is intimately entwined with the space we inhabit. The Marine Museum of the Great Lakes is fortunate to be located on a national historic site that forms a considerable part of the Museum’s narrative.  It means that the Museum is able to at once share the story of the maritime heritage of Kingston and the Great Lakes, all the while connecting visitors to a physical piece of that history. Established in 1975 by a group of local divers who sought to protect the artefacts of the shipwrecks they explored, the Museum occupied the Kingston Dry Dock property (formerly the location of the Kingston Shipyards Co.) from 1975-2016. The Museum was forced to vacate the property in 2016 when the federally-owned property was sold to a local developer, and moved to its storefront gallery location at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour where it currently resides. In August 2019, the Marine Museum purchased the historic property following a gift from a local benefactor, and in October 2021 it moved back home. This set in motion an opportunity to makes our plans to create a new 21st century Museum a reality. Kingston Women's Art Festival

The Kingston Women’s Art Festival is run entirely by the dedication of its enthusiastic volunteers. The success of the Festival depends on many hard working hands. Every year, our volunteers help with such things as registration on the morning of the event, the silent auction throughout the day, and offering assistance to booths to give our wonderful artists washroom breaks and time to eat, to name a few.

Friends of the Penitentiary Museum

The "Friends of the Penitentiary Museum Inc." (FPM) was formed in the late 1990s. Its job: to assist with the development and operation of the only museum in Canada dedicated solely to the presentation and interpretation of the history of Canada's federal penitentiaries. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) realized that the museum, originally established at the Correctional Staff College (Ontario) in 1967, provided a very positive link with the community at the local as well as national and international levels. To ensure the museum's continuing operation in a climate of tightening budgets, something had to be done.

Agnes Etherington Art Centre

Situated within territories of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre is a curatorially-driven and research-intensive professional art centre that proudly serves a dual mandate as a leading, internationally recognized public art gallery and as an active pedagogical resource at Queen’s University in Kingston. By commissioning, researching, collecting and stewarding works of art, and by exhibiting and interpreting visual culture through an intersectional lens, Agnes creates opportunities for participation and exchange across communities, cultures, histories and geographies. Its collections—numbering over 17,000 works—include cutting-edge contemporary art and fine examples of Canadian historical art, Indigenous art and historicized ancestors, and material culture including the Collection of Canadian Dress and the Lang Collection of African Art. The Bader Collection, comprising over 500 works with a focus on seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish painting, includes one portrait and three exquisite character studies by Rembrandt. Agnes is committed to anti-racism. We work to eradicate institutional biases and develop accountable programs that support and centre the artistic expression and lived experience of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour. Agnes promotes 2SLGBTQIAP+ positive spaces. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

H’art Centre is an award-winning registered not-for-profit, charitable community arts hub that provides artists with disabilities and those facing barriers with opportunities to create, study and produce works in the arts and collaborate with qualified, trained community artists. We do this to nurture a vibrant, exciting and supportive culture that encourages artists, staff, volunteers and audiences to reach beyond limiting beliefs and expectations. To value and recognize artists individually for their abilities, and to share this understanding with the world.

Kingston Scout Museum

The Kingston Scout Museum was established in 2007 as a physical space, offering visitors a view of the history of Scouting in Kingston. In 2022, the building we occupied was demolished, and in late 2023, rebranded as a virtual museum. Since then, our collections and exhibits have been viewed across the country and in more than 80 countries. We continue to receive donations of artifacts that we preserve, digitize and share.

Kingston and Area Seed System (KASSI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to facilitating the development of a regional agricultural seed system. KASSI is responsible for stewarding over 200 open-pollinated, heirloom varieties. Our organization is made up of dedicated volunteers that are passionate about gardening, seed saving and the future food security of the Kingston region.

A Greener Future

A Greener Future is an environmental non-profit dedicated to leading the effort in sustaining a clean and healthy environment. By bringing together a community of volunteers and environmental stewards, we facilitate programs that eliminate waste from the environment. As education is at the centre of what we do, we inspire change through a variety of learning opportunities. Our programs raise awareness about plastic pollution in the Great Lakes Region, and detailed data collection sheds a light on the most common items that are found during litter cleanups. Together our impact is wide-reaching, bringing us one step closer to our goal.

Kingston Field Naturalists

The Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) is a nature club and charitable organization, active since 1949. Its objectives are the preservation of wildlife and natural habitats, and the stimulation of people’s interest in nature. The Club membership has a diversity of interests in nature, so a variety of activities take place year-round. Bird watching trips, nature rambles, wildflower walks and other field trips are led by knowledgeable individuals from both within and outside the Club. Each May the public is invited to join a series of bird walks. Monthly meetings are normally open to both members and the public. They feature guest speakers including naturalists, scientists, conservationists and photographers who speak on a wide range of subjects. Meetings are currently in-person with an option to join via video conference. Members regularly participate in hands-on conservation projects such as habitat stewardship and wildlife surveys.

Algonquin to Adirondacks Collaborative

The Algonquin to Adirondacks Collaborative (A2A) is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing a critical wildlife corridor connecting Algonquin Park in Ontario and Adirondack Park in New York. We formed from the recognition that conserving this globally significant landscape—one of the last large-scale, intact forest and wetland linkages in Eastern North America—requires a collaborative, grassroots effort. As a backbone organization, we facilitate collaboration, research, and project development among a wide array of local partners, including land trusts, Indigenous groups, community associations, and academic institutions. Our work is driven by a deep understanding of local ecosystems and community needs, ensuring that our conservation efforts are both science-based and locally rooted.
